Details:

The daunting task to find two conically similar microphones was something new at this time and Neumann developed concept by introducing matched pair principle, which essentially consisted in built with same numbered batch tested components, assembled person during day all evidenced contiguous serial numbers. Some months later, given the recent dismissal of mono reproduction, there was an urge to record new orchestral classic material in stereo. One of the cases has its lid attached to body with tape.

So, this is it: you can have a true vintage matched pair of the most original u87s one find in world. They are obviously among the very-very first of this kind released to market by Neumann corp. They have been used occasionally during the last 8 years and were always fine. Since I bought them, they've been bayed.

At worst, they can fulfill the historical gear lust of any hardcore vintage aficionado. One of the Neumann logo has lost a few color in cleanup, but it is minor. All the dings and other little blemishes that currently appear on these mics happened before I bought them. I had them refurbished and brought back to specs in 1985 by Gotham audio with regard their matched status.

I got them in 1981 while building my first personal studio. The vinyl has dried and cut under manipulation over years.

This does not imply that the u87i can't do these jobs but, for a matched pair, its recommended if you want to keep them, well. As I am heading to retirement, have no real need keep them, aside the fact they were my pride for 36 years. I've never used them to record a howling shouting vocalist as well.

Strictly speaking, they were not even kept in the same room, when loud projects studio to avoid high sound pressure levels. I had plenty of mics to fulfill these jobs, like some other u87's, c414's, shire, Audi, Octavia, e v, etc.

Its been in 1967 that the Neumann company began u87 production eastern Germany. The satin finish has somewhat tarnished over years and there are signs of usual wear, but they clean looking good, nevertheless. The other case is OK. Some tests were done at the factory lab to validate but don't expect a test sheet from this era.

I have not added any that know of. So, this is it: you can have a true vintage matched pair of the most original u87 one find in world. My u87s are from, according to the schematics included dated. Here again, look at the pictures.

Ultra rare stereo matched pair of Neumann u-87. They are obviously among the very first matched pairs released to market by Neumann corp.

To my ears, they still sound solid and true the sources. I've never set them on any percussion, even less drum kits or in a live room application. At worst, they can fulfill the historic gear lust of any hardcore vintage aficionado.
