This particular model comes with a new k47 dual membrane capsule, based off the capsule used in the later original u47. The pattern switch is still on the psu, but the actual switch point in the circuit is directly below the capsule compartment, delivering the benefits of a hard switched mode whenever you want true cardio id, and you still get the option of 7 other polar patterns, from Omani to figure 8.
However, as versatile as it is, the cardio id mode, when created from the power supply, is going to give a subtly different sound than the hard switched cardio id mode that is found in a CM7 or vintage u47. It features an nos vintage telephoning glass tube and historically accurate large bv8 transformer, both which deliver the warmth and heft in the low end that makes this model so classic.
