It is very difficult to find these mics as they were considered boutique at one time. You'll hear clearer, less boxy and more detailed sound with accurate transient response hallmarks of the classic AKG C12 itself a single layer head basket design. The original box has the foam insert too, to ensure safe shipping. The new, replacement head basket increases open area to reduce internal reflections and coloration.
The stock, two-layer cylindrical head basket is ridden with cloudy standing wave coloration. Classic sound is within reach. I communicated with the original modifier Michael Joly he started a well-known company called Octavia Mod about my needs and this is mic that he recommended. According to Michael, The MJE modified MXL-v250 starts with a new single-layer, angled head basket.
I even had a tube condenser mic many years ago. That said, I am reluctantly selling this mic, to thin out the herd. I have owned this condenser mic for almost 10 years, but it has been sitting idle a while now as many other mics. I always use pop filters in front of mics such as these, not only to help reduce pops but also keep the mic clean, with no saliva build-up it.
He used a MXL-v250 as the donor body for his highly modified MJE-V250 model. MJE stands for Michael Joly Engineering.
